The Amlogic S905X5M is a Soc chip specially designed for smart TV boxes. It is an upgraded version of the S905X4, with a higher 2.5GHz CPU clock and a new generation of Arm G310 GPU. The overall performance of the chip has been significantly improved, and a variety of image display technologies have been added to provide users with high-quality video playback and a smooth user experience. The S905X5M and S905X4 share the same video decoding functions, especially AV1 and H265 up to 4K 75fps. However, the new S905X5M gives up support for H.265 1080P 60fps video encoding and only retains H.265 1080P 30fps. One of the new features is the inclusion of an NPU specifically designed for super-resolution, enabling video magnification with better image quality.

The Amlogic S905X5M has the following features:

2.CPU architecture: It has a 4-core Cortex-A55 architecture, providing up to 30K DMIPS processing capability, which means it has a 25% improvement in CPU performance compared to the previous generation;

3.GPU: It integrates the Arm Mali-G310 V2 HDR GPU, and the GPU performance has increased by 130% compared to the previous generation. This helps to improve the refresh rate during gaming and streaming playback, bringing users a smoother and more realistic usage experience;

6.Energy efficiency: Compared to the previous generation products, the S905X5M chip reduces energy consumption by 50% while providing the same performance, which is more environmentally friendly;

7.Video output: It supports the full-featured HDMI 2.1b standard and Quick Media Switching (QMS) technology, providing an enhanced video experience, including Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HLG, and 4K 60fps UHD video;

8.Audio experience: It supports Dolby Atmos, Dolby Audio, and Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC), providing users with a cinema-level audio-visual experience.

The Amlogic S905X5M also adds some special features:

QMS (Quick Media Switching): The source device can immediately switch the resolution or frame rate of its content without showing any interruption. For example, when switching from 60Hz to 24Hz for viewing;

VRR (Variable Refresh Rate): Synchronizes the source and display with a constantly changing refresh rate, up to frame-by-frame, to reduce or eliminate interaction delay, stuttering or tearing;

QFT (Quick Frame Transport): Even if the source does not increase its frame rate, each video is transmitted from the source faster, which reduces the delay in games and real-time interactive interfaces;

SBTM (Source-Based Tone Mapping): Enables the source to send video signals and fully utilize the HDR function of its specific display by adjusting its output to better utilize the functions of each display.
